Easy Tips for Shopping (& Baking!) With Your Toddler

Did you know February is “Bake for Family Fun Month”? With winter weather still lingering, and Valentine’s Day goodies to get ready, it is a great time to plan some fun in the kitchen with your kiddos!

In fact, we wanted to share with you this delicious recipe we found for Huggy Buggy Bread Pudding from chef Aarti Sequeira of Food Network! That’s right -- Buggie Huggie is sharing Huggy Buggy Bread Pudding! :)

Here’s how you can make your own “Bake For Family Fun Month” celebration:

1. Start the fun with an in-store shopping trip!

One of the best ways to build anticipation for your kids (and for yourself!) is to make shopping part of the celebration experience! So get your fanciest leggings, toss your hair into your signature messy bun (mascara and lipstick optional, you gorgeous thing!), grab your little one & your Buggie Huggie shopping cart tray, and you are ready to go!

The Buggie Huggie transforms shopping with your toddlers from a total nightmare to a total dream. Perfect for snacks, books, toys, and coloring, our lockable shopping tray has a “hugging” safety layer to help keep your child from standing up or falling out of the grocery cart, you can focus on getting the supplies you need WITHOUT losing your mind over your squirmy (or whiny) toddler. Keep your kids safe and put an end to mom guilt at the same time!

2. Accept the mess of cooking with little ones.

Especially for those extra-tidy (or even OCD) among us, it helps to prepare ourselves in advance that cooking with toddlers is definitely going to make a mess in our kitchen. So let’s just accept from the get-go that it’s going to take longer to do this together (and longer to clean up...the kitchen & the kid!) Fixing our mindset in the beginning will help us have less stress about the chaos, and give us the brain space and energy to really see & enjoy our kids’ cuteness and curiosity at this age.

3. Tell your kids that you are having fun with them.

So much of the toddler years, our words to our kids are mostly instruction and even correction. So whenever we can, let’s create moments to say out loud to your kids how much you enjoy spending time with them, and how much you can see them learning and growing. If you are struggling with mom guilt or stressed out mom syndrome (as we all do!), you may be surprised how the simple act of filling up your kids love tanks with words of affirmation can actually help replenish your own love tank in the process!

Bake For Family Fun Month is not really about the recipe...it’s about intentionally making time to be together and create memories with your kids. We hope you enjoy Huggy Buggy Bread Pudding or whatever favorite recipe brings you together with your sweet littles!
