Starting the New Year with a fresh view

An old IT friend of mine used to always say, “when in doubt, just click reset.” It worked almost every time with my broken technology and I’ve found this technique works great in motherhood too!

No matter what stage of life you’re in, we all need the chance to click “reset”. The turning of a new year is the perfect time to replace the dirty filter from the previous year with a fresh view. As we welcome 2022, we want to share a few of our favorite ways to click “reset” at the New Year!

Word of the year and why

A word of the year centralizes your focus for the year. Picking a word of the year is less about checking off resolutions and more about creating a purpose for your year which guides your daily activities and motivates your personal growth. One year for me it was the word “patience”. Little did I know that year would test my patience in every possible way, but having that word in my mind motivated me to develop that quality more in myself each day. Ask my husband, but I think it worked!

New Year’s resolutions for 2022

Some of you reading this are incredibly goal-oriented and I commend you for that! I don’t care how many people talk down on setting New Year’s resolutions, I still find value in setting these goals. But I’ll be frank. The amount of times I’ve set the same goal each year and not kept to it is disheartening. What I’ve found though, is that’s ok! You may not be able to accomplish that goal in this season of your life, but hold onto the goal until you’re in the right season to fulfill it. One of my repeatedly failed resolutions each year was to send birthday cards to my nieces and nephews on time. I never could do it in the past, but this year my world slowed down and I actually did it! Give yourself grace and accomplish your goals in the right season.

Reflecting on 2021

Another great way to click “reset” is to take a little chunk out of your day to reflect on 2021. Ask yourself a few questions such as:

  • What are you most grateful for from 2021?
  • What is the biggest lesson you learned in 2021 and what did it teach you about yourself?
  • What three words describe 2021?

Taking these moments to reflect helps us to appreciate the past year and anchor ourselves for the future.

The Buggie Huggie family is excited to hit the ground running in 2022! We are anticipating God to lead us to great things and are eager to see parents flourish with tools in hand to take on this New Year. Don’t let fear from the past two years keep you in 2022. Kick off this year strong and take every single day as a gift from above.
